Sens fans, I need some help. I have an opportunity to invest in pageau and zibenejad rookie cards. Do u guys see any major upside in either of them?

What do yo mean when you say invest? I know nothing about hockey cards. Career wise, Zib has the biggest chance to make more gains as a player, and will almost assuredly be the better player in their careers. He will likely improve during htis season, how much is still hotly debated though.

Zibanejad Yes... Pageau's ceiling is a 3rd line center line center. There was some offensive flare (like a Briere) when he first game in but right now he'll be better served trying to be a energy pk 200 ft player

Good on Chabot, he proved in camp he is worth his new entry level contract. Can't wait to watch him all season in Saint John, NB.

Bad bounces or not Hammond must be better!

9mm looked like a legit top 6 NHL forward last night. I hope this continues.

I can't see JGP in the top 6 at all, with Turris and himself we are small and weak down the middle in the top 6.. Zibby needs to have a good season for the Sens to make any noise in the playoffs.

Concerns

Bobby Ryan - Ryan dropping the gloves isn't really the type of passion I want to see from him. I'd rather have him drive the wing, put the shoulder down and make a power move to the net. What's the point of dropping the gloves with Wheeler in a preseason game.... maybe injure your wrist, hands, or landing awkwardly. We don't need $7.25M goal scorers in the pressbox.

Jared Cowen - There are certainly times where he plays well. Simple passes, presence, and positioning are key to his game. I'd really like to see him make a big hit or fight someone. Having that physical presence would really go a long way in his confidence.

Andrew Hammond - that game in Winnipeg really could mean absolutely nothing but he really didn't look like a goalie that was poised and skilled enough to back stop a game if something happens to Anderson. It's just preseason so it really doesn't matter but I'll be very interested to see how he plays next game.

Agreed on the Pageau front. He is much better suited to being on the Sens third line. He's a good third line center. Putting him on the second line will have him outside his element. Also agree with the size argument.

This is teh year for zib to show what he can do. Got to give him the best line mates available and ice time.

Relax a little. Hammond is the mediocre goalie all sane hockey fans knew. He should be alright in the backup role. He's not going to be the "next big time goalie"

Cowen has played better throughout the preseason (for Cowen). I hope this trend continues, but I'm not positive it will. He started the preseason looking like an ECHL d-man. He looked like a 5/6 d-man last night. His speed, puck control, and consistency will always be an issue I think.

Ryan fought Wheeler did he not? Another goal scorer. We'd all rather see him score goals, but it's preseason. Who cares. Let's just hope he starts the year well. Let him find his legs in the preseason.

No need for huge concerns. The concerns that are apparent are the ones that were the team last year and will probably come to light early in the year. Lack of a true 1st line centre and the reliability of our defence past Karlsson and Methot. We didn't need preseason to figure that out. Everything else is simply complaining for the sake of complaining.

I think you are placing too much on the label. I suggested a top 9 as opposed to top 6 for balanced purposes. Obviously Turris - MacArthur - Stone is #1, but if you want to call the other two I suggested 2 and 2A or whatever, but each would have a pretty equal opportunity to score. If you call the Pageau line the third line, then you have a $50M player on your "third" line... And Pageau played pretty well with Ryan and Michalek in last night's game (although yes, it is just one game, and a preseason one at that). Anaheim has tried the same thing by splitting up Getlaf, Perry and Kesler on separate lines to spread out the offense. Don't know if it will work or not, or even if that is a plan. I just think it is weird that not only have Zibanejad and Ryan not been on the same line yet in the preseason, they haven't both even played in the same game.

Gotta agree here. The Sens were at their best last season when they had 3 lines rolling with equal opportunities to score. With no true 1st line players (NHL ranking-wise) the way to succeed is having multiple lines generating opportunities. Makes it harder for the defending team. We have the players to role 3 lines fairly seamlessly. Hopefully guys like Wideman, Wiercioch, and Ceci can handle the puck control role on the blue line with this strategy when Karlsson is off for a rest.

Don't know why everyone else can quote but i can't.

Anyway, I agree with both of you guys. With a lack of top end players (A crosby, stamkos etc), the sens strength came from their depth.

I guess my main point is perhaps putting some better players with Zib could be best for his development, and the teams.

No knock on Lazar, but he didn't exactly show boatlaods of offense last year.

ya I agree, it's preseason, you take a deep breath, but watching Hammond I KNEW he didn't feel right. It was so apparent after the 3-3 goal. When they went into OT and just the vibe I got from Hammond (he came out too far on one shot). Again it's preseason but that doesn't mean the games mean nothing.

Bruins were cup teams without a true #1. Bergeron, Krejci, Kelly --- Turris, Zibanejad, Lazar

Mac Turris Stone
Ryan Zib Hoffman
Michalek Pageau Lazar
Prince Smith Neil(EDIT CHIASSON)

Similar lines to what we saw last year, and we still have a balanced set of offense that spreads the talent around, albeit to a lesser degree.

FACT & FICTION

Fact: Jared Cowen is better; 6th on my depth chart ATM
Fiction: Chris Phillips is still an NHL D-man.

Fact: Shane Prince is borderline to be on this team
Fiction: Matt Puempel should be sent down

Fact: Bobby Ryan NEVER outside the top 6
Fiction: Bobby Ryan is a proven top line player

Fact: Andrew Hammond has proven he was a miracle goalie
Fiction: He's proven he's a NHL back up

Fact: Lazar is going to be a solid player with scoring chances
Fiction: High chance he's going to capitalize on them

Fact: Zibanejad had a solid season last year
Fiction: unlike hoffman......it was a fluke

Fact: Shane Prince is borderline to be on this team
Fiction: Matt Puempel should be sent down

- AlfieisKing

I think it's a pretty solid bet that Prince is on the team, and I'm not sure Puemple should be sent down is fiction. I mean, who would he replace on LW? Michalek, MacArthur, Hoffman? Or are you suggesting Puemple should stay up instead of Prince? Can't really move him to RW. Things are just as crowded over there. Stone, Ryan, Lazar, Chiasson, Neil.

Fact: Zibanejad had a solid season last year
Fiction: unlike hoffman......it was a fluke

- AlfieisKing

Aren't we quick to assume Hoffman was a fluke? He hasn't even had a chance to prove himself. The season hasn't even started. He's played pretty well in the pre season. He's had some good chances, and he is firing the puck at a high frequency. If he shoots that much with the speed and accuracy he has shown, he may do well for goals again this year.
